Open Water Swimming
Banished Quarry
A recent find for us but its an amazing spot – this is for the more adventurous and the stronger swimmers as quarries are deep and cold so do be aware of this.
The best place to park while you hunt for this one is Walna Scar Carpark which is a pay and display car park or you can walk up from Torver if you prefer. The footpath from either goes past the quarry.

From Walna Scar car park follow Walna Scar road until you come to a left hand fork in the path take that fork and it will lead you to it. Be warned the sides are steep to get down and there are a few warning signs but you will see a path down at one side that’s safe and brings you to a good entry point.
This one actually has a manmade waterfall thanks to a mining accident that ended the mines days a little earlier than had been planned, but led to an absolutely beautiful swimming spot. We spent a good couple of hours there, and only saw two other swimmers during a really hot day in the summer. So not unknown, but certainly not one where you'll be fighting for space if you decide to visit.
