Should you fancy an evening tipple or a night off from cooking, the nearest pub, The Sun Inn, is dog-friendly and makes the perfect base, just a mile away; alternatively you can tour the Lake District Distillery and bring home your tipple, or spend an afternoon on a steam train with lunch at Bassenthwaite Station.

Ideally positioned on the Cumbrian Way, there is an abundance of outdoor activities to be enjoyed, starting from the doorstep; head up the England’s 4th-highest mountain, Skiddaw, from Kestrel Cottage, or make the walk to the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake for some wild swimming.

Uncover Bassenthwaite’s natural and cultural gems, for a serene and tranquil stroll along the lake's shoreline.

Following the Cumbrian Way, venture to the popular spot of Keswick, where you can find plenty of shops and dining options before jumping on the bus back to Kestrel Cottage.

Enjoy the picturesque valleys in Borrowdale, activity-filled Derwent Water with its activities such as boating, sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking available to take out onto the lake.

Get your walking boots on and hike Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, and find another picture-perfect lake, Buttermere, all just short and scenic drives away.

If you’re looking for some off-lead time with your four-legged friends, Park Wood and Dodd Wood are nearby and offer a delightful route for you and your pooch.

Finally for a spot of history, head to the birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian, Cockermouth, where you can brush up on the local culture.
